Does anyone ever truly feel that they've mastered the handgun? The more you get into handgun training the more you realize just how difficult a weapon this thing is to work with. To LE/MIL the handgun is a tertiary weapon. However, to the Tier 1 Citizen the handgun is a primary weapon if not our sole weapon. We don't get to fall back and call in help, we don't have a panic button that we can push and have a swarm of fellow officers or a QRF at out disposal. The handgun is it for us. If we fail at training with our handguns then we're just fooling ourselves into thinking that we're ready for the fight. And let me be clear training isn't standing in a veil slot at the range and firing one round per second then placing the weapon on the been when it's empty. Training with your handgun has to be in combatives. You have to want to get better and you have to know what better looks like.
At Tier 1 Citizen training I offer training that is focused to the needs of the armed citizen. In an effort to give you guys the same experiences I have on the range I have heavily invested in steel targets from Challenge Targets. These targets are the best thing I've ever used because they are robust, easy to put up, and easy to reface with nothing more than spray paint. The best and fastest way to learn when shooting is by shooting steel. Within 300 milliseconds of witnessing a hit on steel your brain creates a new neural pathway and labels it "success!" There's a reason the pros train on steel - think about that.
If you guys are interested in these targets here's the info on them. "Stake Target - Human Silhouette - Handgun Rated." Code: GS-RM-80039-H
